Fabricators
and manufacturers using PTFE materials
in their products or processes depend upon
a variety of Repro-Lon® Products ranging from
blended compounds using virgin resins
to high-purity reprocessed materials.
Documented accuracy in the
preparation of Virgin and reprocessed materials.
To ensure the
production of only
superior products, all Repro-Lon compounds are analyzed by our
in-house laboratory to ensure uniform quality, consistency, and
accurate custom color mixing. This enables us to confirm
exact formulation percentages and other performance
characteristics.
Repro-Lon Products are completely
tested to ensure that they meet the customer specific
requirements and those of ASTM D 4745-97 for filled compounds of
PTFE molding and extrusion materials.
Reprocessed materials make the grade for economy in secondary uses. The wide range of Repro-Lon compounds and production capabilities
includes several grades of recycled PTFE for applications that don't require the expense of virgin material.
Grade #1 product is a clean, white powder consisting of 99.99% PTFE resin and is very similar in appearance to virgin resin (averaging 60-mesh size). This high-purity reprocessed material is used
for applications ranging from billets to the extrusion or molding of stock shapes, tubing, gaskets, and ball-valve seats.
Grade #3 product is an off-white to gray-colored powder available in a range of particle size distributions. We also offer a Grade #3 packing blend that is a special mix of virgin and
reprocessed PTFE materials. This product is used to create packing
materials for valve stems and other applications.
How Repro-Lon Products make other products better.
The quality and
consistency of Repro-Lon compounds and additives enhance the performance of other products and processes across a wide range of applications. In addition to our standard milled materials (typically milled to 50 microns), we also provide micronized PTFE powders for applications that require a finer particle size (down to 3 microns).
- Thermoplastic parts manufacturers represent one of the leading markets for our micronized PTFE powders which are added to thermoplastics to enhance the surface finish and act as a mold release agent in the manufacturing of injection molded parts.
- Manufacturers and processors of PTFE components take advantage of Repro-Lon Texas' production capacity
and expertise to get consistent blending of virgin PTFE powders with color-enhancing
pigments or performance-enhancing fillers such as glass, carbon, and molybdenum.
- PTFE reduces blocking in paints and other finish coatings.
- PTFE-based powders are also a key additive in oil-based automotive lubricants as well as in dry lubricants.
- PTFE powders are a familiar ingredient in the manufacture of non-stick pots, pans, and cookware.
PTFE scrap purchasing and grading criteria.
T o obtain the raw material for Repro-Lon
reprocessed PTFE products, we purchase scrap PTFE in bulk from a variety of resources. If you are a PTFE manufacturer or processor with scrap material in any of the categories listed below, contact your Repro-Lon Products representative to learn how you can recoup part of your investment in non-salable parts or
non-by-products of your production process.
- Grade 1 Hardstock - Includes clean, top-quality items fabricated from virgin granular PTFE powders, unmodified by any pigments or fillers. Typical examples include cores, cracked billets or pre-forms, rod, tube, and sheet ends, chucking stubs, obsolete or rejected parts, and drops of at least 0.040" thickness.
- Grade 2 Hardstock - Includes items that contain partially or totally reprocessed resin. it may contain a small amount of contamination from oil, dirt, and easily sorted out scraps.
- Grade 3 Hardstock - Includes pigmented material, filled resins, degraded virgin or
reprocessed material, or stock with heavy contaminates.
- Off-Spec Virgin PTFE - Virgin PTFE resin that does not meet the designated specifications or tolerances of the manufacture for whom it was originally produced.
- Grade 1 Machine Turnings - Turnings produced from the dry machining of Grade 1 hardstock material, or tape punchings and trimmings up to 0.040".
- Grade 2 Machine Turnings - Grade 2 turnings are produced from the dry machining of Grade 2 hardstock (made with reprocessed resins).
- Oily Machining Turnings - Turnings contaminated with cutting oils from the machining process can be extracted or washed, but must be drained of excess oil and be free of excessive contamination.
